'An evening of one act plays 2009' by Various

The first play of the evening featured a glimpse at a set of people we know rather well, an amateur dramatic group!
Last Tango in Little Grimley by David Tristram involves us following the Little Grimley amateur drama group, as they hit their lowest ebb. After numerous unsuccessful shows the future for the group looks uncertain, until their leader Gordon comes up with a wonderful idea for their next production, a naughty, no holes barred naked romp, which he's written himself!

With such an exciting, and different show on offer the local flock in to see what ends up to be in reality 'a nice little farce'. Sadly the group is so inept at acting that the show is about to go flat on its face, until, Margaret one of the female members of the group shows a little more the the audience than is decent!

This year we also tried a collection of three 'playlettes', including Dancers, Shoppers and Early Blight by Jean McConnell. All the action for these three short two hander plays took place on the seafront promenade, and included three sets of women with very different hopes, fears and personalities. These ranged from Betty and Wynn who were considering the best way to get to do the Waltz with their favourite fells down the over ball room club, to Rosemary and Angela who are trying to avoid being arrested for shop lifting. Our third play included a deeply emotional and heart rendering argument between June and her over possessive mother, after June discovers hidden letters from a long-lost love.

image   Our final offering was Gosforth's Fete by Alan Ayckbourn, a riotous play that offered a superb finale to the evening, and
included the need to have a tea tent built on stage! The action follows Gordon Gosforth as he almost singlehandedly struggles
to stage a successful village fete. However whilst doing this he must deal with the announcement that he is now a father as a
result of a one night stand, a drunken, irate Scout master, a sound system that doesn't work, a huge thunderstorm and a distressed
local councillor! Needless to say Gordon's plans don't run smoothly through all these tribulations and a calamitous situation ensues.
